This article discusses the Credit Card Fee Donation feature available in Member Essentials Plus. With this feature, your customers will see an option on all purchase check-out screens allowing them to add a donation to the order to cover the League's credit card processing fees.
Required access:
The Credit Card Fee Donation feature is activated for your League by the JL Support team. Please see the section below How to Activate the Feature.
To view the current settings of this feature, you will need the Order Administrator or Administrator access level.
Where to go:
- Navigate to the Order Management > Credit Card Fee Donation Feature to view the settings of the feature.
How it Works
Once the feature is activated, customers will see a prompt on all credit card check-out screens to include a donation equal to some percentage of the order. This percentage is configured when the feature is activated for your League. If the donation option is selected by the customer, a line item named "Credit Card Fee Donation" is added to the order and tagged with the accounting reference code configured for your League. The prompt will appear on all order check-out screens including dues, paid events, and Simple Store.

How to Activate the Feature
The feature is activated by the JL Support team. To request activation, complete the following form:

Surcharges to cover credit card fees are regulated by state and federal law. Please refer to the following article for information on the laws in your state > https://merchantcostconsulting.com/lower-credit-card-processing-fees/credit-card-surcharge-laws-by-state/
The form will ask you to acknowledge that you are using the feature in compliance to laws as they apply to your Junior League.
The form also requires other information for activation.
- Percentage of order to be charged - This is the percentage of the order total to be added to the order if the customer selects the donation option.
- Accounting Reference to be used for the credit card fee donation line item - This is the accounting reference to be used to tag the line item in the order. See Creating Accounting Reference Codes
- Default state for the donation prompt - This is the default state of the donation prompt
- Selected indicates the donation prompt will be checked by default
- Not Selected indicates the donation prompt will not be checked by default
Upon submitting a request, the JL Support Team will activate the feature for your League and notify you when it is completed. The donation prompt will appear on all check-out screens once activated.
How to View the Settings for the Feature
To view the current settings of the feature, go to Order Management and select the tab Credit Card Fee Donation Feature.
