This article will show how to create a child requirement, which will be one of the multiple possibilities nested under a Parent requirement. Define the Parent requirement first, before setting up the Child requirement by setting the Requirement Type to "Parent". See How to Create a Requirement

For example, the Parent category may be “Community Involvement” and the options could be “Done in a Day Shift” and “Holiday Mart Shift” and “Coats for Kids Shift”, then the member can select from the child activities to complete.

Required access:

You will need the Requirements Administrator or Administrator access level.

How to get there:

  • Go to Admin > Member Management
  • Go to Requirements Manger

Steps to be taken:

  1. At the bottom of the page, click New Requirement.
  2. Enter a name such as Holiday Mart Shifts in the Requirement Name.
  3. Choose the Requirement Type.
  4. For Parent Requirement, select the parent name to which this child requirement should be assigned.
  5. When you choose a Parent Requirement, two more options will appear in addition to Credit Multiplier
    • Credit Multiplier -  is worth X number of credits towards the requirement. This is often used for Leagues who use the Points system. (ex) if you set 3 here, this requirement will credit 3 points, based on the Quantity to Attain One Credit
    • Max Number of Credits - this will indicate that the child requirement can only count toward X credits. This is an optional field that applies to Quantity Required to Attain One Credit, described below.
    • Quantity Required to Attain One Credit - this indicates the quantity or number of times the activity needs to be completed to receive one credit. In most cases, this should remain set to 1. Examples where this is used are:
      • For a Purchase requirement, where the member is required to purchase a total of $50 to receive 1 credit, the Quantity Required to Attain One Credit is set to 50.
      • For a Purchase requirement, where the member is required to purchase 3 items to receive 1 credit, the Quantity Required to Attain One Credit is set to 3.
      • For an Hours requirement, if the member is required to volunteer 4 hours to receive 1 credit, the Quantity Required to Attain One Credit is set to 4.

  6. Choose the First Period Span this requirement. This is the first year it will be available to use.
  7. If applicable, choose a Last Period Span for when the requirement should no longer be available. When creating a new requirement span, you can leave this blank.
  8. Add a Requirement Description.
  9. You can also add an Action Link (optional). This is where an Admin will have the ability to redirect a Member to a URL such as the Simple Store or Calendar page.
  10. Save the child requirement.
  11. Take note, once a child requirement is assigned to a parent, it will no longer be directly assignable and any direct assignments for the fiscal year will be removed. To assign different children for a new fiscal year, the League would end the parent requirement and create a new one for the next fiscal year.
  12. When a Parent requirement is assigned, the Member can see their child requirements by clicking on the view details link on the homepage.
